Election observers are popular

The new cool?

The new cool

A new WorldPublicOpinion.org poll of 17 countries finds strong support for international election observers.  Overall, 65% of the respondents believed that election observers should monitor elections when concerns about electoral fairness exist.  The UK has the strongest support in this area, with 81% approving.  More surprising, 57% thought their country would benefit from having international observers.  Kenya and Nigeria had the strongest support in this area, with 82% and 78% approving, respectively.

The data also show strong support in the US for election monitors.  67% of respondents agree that monitors should be present when concerns about electoral fairness exist and 46% believe elections in the US would improve if international observers were present.
