Terrorists rock Moscow

From the New York Times:

Female suicide bombers set off huge explosions in two subway stations in central Moscow during the Monday morning rush hour, Russian officials said, killing more than three dozen people and raising fears that the Muslim insurgency in southern Russia was once again being brought to the country’s heart.

  • Well color me shocked. Here I’ve been listening to what seems like years of commentary about how Russia achieved victory in Chechnya through its unrestrained application of force. I thought torture and anonymous, indefinite detention of suspects were the keys to counterinsurgent success!

  • Ha! It’s an excellent point. Putin’s bargain of no freedom in return for improved security and standards of living seems to be unravelling.

  • Yes, this makes sense. This reminds me of the scene in Bowling for Columbine when Joe Lieberman blamed rock music for the school shootings.
