Shuang

I am a recent graduate from Democracy and Governance program at Georgetown University.
I have been focusing on China’s economic development and democracy process since I came to Georgetown. For my internship at Asia Society and Human Rights Watch, I conducted intensive research on China’s investment overseas, particularly in Africa and Southeast Asia, analysed its political and social impact on those societies. May it be driven by development strategy of central government or profitability for private sectors, I consider they bring changes to China’s domestic development as well. I am also fascinated by the political opening in Burma and challenges it facing.
Before I came to Georgetown, I studied philosophy at Wuhan University. I led a a philosophy club, holding lectures and watching movies. I also worked as as a journalist, a drama director, a business intern etc.. My broad interests guarantee that I am always doing something, though distractive occasionally.
Founded in 2004, Democracy and Society is a biannual print journal published by the Center for Democracy and Civil Society at Georgetown University. The D&S Blog provides web-only content, including special reports and investigative series, on issues relating to democracy and development.
